Sibylla “Billie” Robertson is an artist living and working across Gadigal and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung lands. Their practice is driven by the chemical and transformative possibilities of materials, alongside the dual histories of ceramics and glass as both sacred artefacts and everyday objects. Working across installation, ceramics, glass and performance, Robertson explores material hierarchies, aesthetics of desire and the shifting boundaries between art, craft and cultural value. Through tactile and process-led experimentation, their work considers how objects accumulate meaning through touch, ritual and display.
Robertson completed a Master of Fine Art at the National Art School in 2021, where they received the Mansfield Ceramic Prize (2019) and the N.E. Petheridge Award (2021). Robertson has undertaken residencies in NSW, Germany, and Japan, and has exhibited widely across Australia and internationally, including two performance works presented in Cut N Polish, Carriageworks, Sydney (2022 and 2023), as well as group exhibitions such as Say—sweet silence, Altehandelschule, Germany (2023); It’s Nothing Personal, Seventh Gallery, Melbourne (2024); Shiro Oni, Onishi, Japan (2025); and What the hand remembers, Saint Cloche Gallery, Sydney (2026).
