Andrea Spencer: Sea Glass Flame  3-Day Flameworking Workshop

3 Days: Tuesday 11 - Thursday 13 February, 9am to 4pm

Immerse yourself in the magical world of  flameworking with Sea Glass Flame, a three-day workshop set in the inspiring landscape of  Poatina Tasmania. Drawing inspiration from marine lifeforms and finds from the shoreline, you will create sculptural glass objects using Borosilicate glass, learning to manipulate molten glass in the flame to bring your creative visions to life.

Over the course of the workshop, you'll discover the artistry of using heat, gravity, and precise technique to shape and form glass. The workshop will cover essential skills such as bending, stretching, sculpting, and carving glass, as well as advanced methods for combining solid and hollow sculpting techniques to build intricate pieces. These techniques will allow you to create detailed objects inspired by the forms and textures of marine life, shells, corals, and other coastal wonders.

The class will feature hands-on instruction at individual workstations, offering a perfect balance of guided demonstrations and practice time. You'll learn to work with both bench and hand torches, and gain insights into how I create larger sculptural pieces. Through this process, you'll be introduced to the concepts of sculptural assemblages, installations, and innovative glass artwork.

Throughout the workshop, there will be group discussions and plenty of opportunities for inspiration and creative exchange. Whether you're a complete beginner or have some experience with glassmaking, you'll be guided through each step of the process, developing your skills while exploring new possibilities sculpting glass in the flame.
