For the first time, the Australian glass art community will convene in the intimate surrounds of Poatina, Tasmania, for the 2025 biennial Ausglass conference.

Members old and new are invited to explore the role and impact of the many communities and places that support, inspire, and propel our glass-making practices and relationships locally, regionally, and globally.

Artists, makers and industry professionals will share their experiences of community, whether physical or metaphorical, examining its influence on our lives and work.

Together we will consider and celebrate the value, health and diversity of our glass communities, be they studio-based, temporary, residential, or educational. We will recognise our grounding in and connections to local daily practice, and reflect on instances where we found ourselves in novel environments, creating away from home or outside of routine.

Poatina village, an ex-hydro electric town built in the late 1950s, is nestled among foothills of the Great Western Tiers in Tasmania's northern midlands. Deriving its name from a palawa kani word meaning shelter or cave, ‘Poatina’ is immersed in natural beauty, inspiring views and retro charm. With a well-equipped glass studio and a range of accommodation options - including motel and hostel rooms as well as camping facilities - Poatina serves as an ideal venue for conferences and a perfect base for exploring the wonders of Tasmania.

More information about accommodation and bookings will be made available when conference registrations open. Stay tuned for further announcements.

The conference subcommittee is putting together an exciting line of up presentations and more will be shared in the coming weeks.
