CONVERGENCE - Where Glass meets Silver: Sophie Carnell
CONVERGENCE - Where Glass meets Silver: Sophie Carnell
February 18-21, 2025, Poatina
This workshop is the perfect opportunity for you to bring along some of your beautiful small glass treasures and learn how to incorporate them into silver wearables or small sculpture using a myriad of traditional and contemporary silversmithing techniques.
The workshop will cover basic silversmithing techniques including sawing, filing, texturing, metal forming, soldering, joining metal and glass components, sanding and polishing - among others!
Sophie is a renowned silversmith who regularly incorporates other materials into her work, anything from driftwood to plastic beach debris or antique books to shattered windscreens.
Through instruction, demonstrations and problem solving and discussion Sophie and Russell McKane, Poatina’s resident silversmith, will help you bring to life your ideas to create unique pieces that combine silver and glass.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some silversmithing experience.
Silver and all workshop consumables are included in the fee.
